3.- Could you describe the best strategies that you use in your classroom? The most effective ones?

We use a range of strategies and every day is different. Because we are a teen parent college we always use methods that suit individual students. each student has an IEP and they are able to work at their own pace with face to face support in small groups
Multisensory approach has been the most effective way of teaching
Collaborative Learning: For my literature classes, I use a combination of collaborative learning and learning circles. Depending on the topic and issues we are discussing, the approach varies. The learning circles are used at the start and end of the term to help students to establish some of their own fears and concerns as well as expectations for the class. It also helps students to recognize that their anxieties may not be unique and there are others who feel the same and possibly could support them. Collaborative learning is used during exploration of issues in class. Students get to work in groups to discuss and analyze characters, themes etc. This is also used sometimes to help students in their assignments as a pre-assignment discussion session. Project based learning: I teach a specific course for grades 7 and 8 that uses PBL as the main pedagogy. Students work in groups of 3-5 to create ethnographic interviews and videos of individuals based on a given theme per year. Students get to decide their own timeline for the project as well as the various learning objectives for each week. Teachers are facilitators who provide support and clarification when they are in doubt.
Differentiated Assessment as formative assessment eg. Use of tiered questions to make the success criteria of attempting questions that require increasing level of difficulty (recall, comprehension to application) visible to the child. This serves as formative feedback after every topic or module.
Group work High expectations Theme based units Students doing the thinking
I use the Inquiry approach in teaching Humanities. I use a lot of source-based techniques to teach critical thinking. I also use multimedia resources when I teach content.
There is group work and group discussions and presentations.
Most of the strategies I used in the classroom are task based. I firmly believed that the student must create or forge his or her learning by doing and practicing. Languages are learned by practicing extensively. The activities they do are related with technology, they have to search for information and examples. Videos, music, readings, web pages, etc. Some are project based but I focus them at the end of the semester, as a whole project in which they mix their learnings. The projects are fully related with their personal experiences. I firmly believe that the learning must be meaningful, related to their lives.
I use constructivist approach in my classroom. I believe learning happens when students are active and they construct the knowledge themselves, based on their prior knowledge and experiences.
The school I teach in has just introduced Smart boards. Showing film clips related to the lesson/poem/novel in literature being taught has been started by me.
I would say the best strategies and the ones my students also enjoy most are pair and group work activities. They learn from each other and I believe real communication with others is essential in foreign language teaching. They mostly get to talk with each other on different topics in pairs or groups practicing the structures and/or vocabulary we've just talked about.
